ACCESSIBILITY COMMITTEE REPORT - 2009
The Accessibility Committee is a new Committee of Knox United Church. Its sole purpose is to develop and implement a plan to create a more accessible building here at Knox.
The Committee has met with Mr. Michael Cox (designer of the front foyer addition), and developed a plan of action. To ensure that the building is 100% accessible, two lifts will need to be installed. One will access the old gymnasium, the front foyer and the sanctuary. Another lift will access the church office, the third floor and McMillan Hall. It is proposed that a new entrance be created on the north side of the west entrance. Two handicapped washrooms will be built. One will be on the third floor in the youth room area and the other in the south half of the old kitchen.
Mr. Cox is currently developing conceptual drawings that will be presented to the congregation for approval prior to the creation of engineered plans. Knox United Church would like to thank Mr. Cox for donating his time and talents to this project. We are truly blessed to have his support.
Anyone wanting to donate to this worthwhile project may make a donation to the Accessibility Fund of Knox United Church, Fort Frances. It is anticipated that $350,000 will be needed to complete this project. Thanks to the generosity and vision of many of our supporters, we currently have approximately $35,000 in the fund to start us on our fundraising task.
Membership on the Accessibility Committee is open to anyone with an interest in helping with this project. All are welcome. For more information on how you can get involved, contact Pat Clysdale-Cornell, (486-3477) or Dick and Carol Lyons (274-3050).
