Outreach

OUTREACH COMMITTEE

Knox’s Outreach Committee seeks to encourage outreach activities in the local congregation, the community and the wider world.  We combine education and action to:

• provide information about the Mission & Service Fund
• inform the congregation regularly about mission, outreach and special action issues received from the wider United Church of Canada (Presbytery, Conference and General Council)
• invite and encourage active participation in outreach concerns, ecumenical activities and social issues
• provide mission and outreach education through distribution of printed materials, use of audio-visuals, holding special events and outreach-themed services of worship, etc.

The Mission & Service Fund: In the United Church of Canada we decide together what mission and ministry to support. We also pool our financial resources to support this work. This pool of money is called the Mission and Service Fund. It is made up of voluntary gifts and together we use it to fund our worship, our church organization, our ministry, and God’s mission. The Mission and Service Fund combines all of the annual gifts to The United Church of Canada to support service and ministry across Canada and around the world. The M&S Fund enables us to speak with a united voice in advocacy and justice work.  M & S works in partnership in different countries around the world to help partners develop or continue projects that the partners think are necessary in their circumstances. Kairos: Canadian Ecumenical Justice Initiatives is a dynamic church-based social justice movement.  The United Church of Canada is a member. KAIROS works with its members, partners, and our cross-Canada community based network in the following areas: ecological justice, solidarity in Canada, human rights and trade, grassroots action for global justice grounded in the local community.  Further information is available at www.kairoscanada.org.
