WORSHIP COMMITTEE REPORT – 2009
Committee Members: Bill Gushulak, Elaine Sande, Mary Hickling, Luella Kellar, Dianne DeBenedet, Everett Freeman, May Ann Kalar, Janice Boneham, Barb Miller
The 2009 year at Knox brought many opportunities for groups, as well as individuals, to lead worship along with the very capable Ministerial leadership provided by Rev. Barb Miller. It is with appreciation that the Worship Committee acknowledges the support of these many groups and lay leaders that have helped to lead Sunday morning worship, Thursday evening worship during July & August, CCU and Rainycrest worship.
The Worship Committee meets monthly following the Sunday morning church service. They address all matters that pertain to Sunday services as well as any additional services. With Rev. Barb’s guidance, the Worship Committee has attempted to initiate creative worship ideas along with traditional worship services to meet the varying needs of our congregation. New ideas and suggestions are always welcome and can be brought to the Worship Committee meetings by contacting one of the members.
2009 Worship highlights included:
- World Leprosy Day led by the Outreach Committee & other helpers
- Transfiguration Sunday led by Choir members
- Palm/Passion Sunday- Palm Parade with St. John’s Anglican
- Easter Sunday service- play “Stripes” for Children’s Time
- Christian Family Sunday & Mother’s Day led by Sunday School
- Pentecost- Reception of New Members by transfer and adult baptism
- Summer Potluck supper and worship
- Play “Women of Faith in Canadian History”
- Sunny Cove Camp- joined campers for Carnival Night followed by Vesper Service
- Pet Blessing Service
- Christmas Eve Service and Pageant
- Various Family Events throughout the year
Many thanks need to go to Rev. Barb Miller for her inspirational leadership, to May Ann Kalar for her musical leadership as organist and Senior Choir Director, and to Janice Boneham for her organizational talents attending to the many details above and beyond her regular administrative duties. Finally, a special thank you to those who contribute to worship services in various ways- all who share of their musical talents either as soloists or instrumentalists, lay worship leaders, greeters, readers, offering takers, communion servers- in short, all who in the spotlight or behind the scenes, contribute to the worship services that are vital to the spiritual life at Knox.
Respectfully submitted,
Dianne DeBenedet
